BETWEEN PASSION AND PURPOSE: WHY STUDENTS ARE CONSIDERING ENTREPRENEURSHIP AS A CAREER

Have you ever asked yourself “Is a regular job the only way to succeed?”

This question comes to mind for many students, including me. While jobs offer security, there’s also a growing interest in starting something of our own like a small business, freelancing, or even a creative idea. This blog shares why students today are thinking beyond just jobs and looking for something with deeper meaning.

Thanks to the internet and digital tools, students now have more choices than ever. We can learn anything, reach anyone, and start small projects with just a phone. I've seen friends do amazing things start baking businesses, sell art, tutor online all while studying. This new mindset is all about doing something that connects with who we are.

If you’re confused about what to do after college!  get a job or start something on your own this blog can help.

Freedom Feels Better

One big reason students think about starting their own work is freedom. In a job, we follow fixed timings, rules, and instructions. But when you are your own boss, you set your own path. Example: A friend of mine started a small online store. Now she works on her own time and loves what she does.

Take example of Kabir Jeet Singh, the founder of Burger Singh, had that feeling. While studying in the UK, he worked part-time at a burger shop. After finishing his MBA, he could have taken a well-paying job. But instead, he had a different idea what if he brought Indian Flavors to burgers?

He left the safe path and returned to India. Starting small, he launched Burger Singh with desi-style burgers like Rajma Patty and Chana Burger. Today, it’s a growing food chain across India. Kabir’s story shows that freedom comes from doing what excites you.

Learning More Every Day

When you start something on your own, you learn a lot. From talking to customers to managing money and solving problems you pick up real-life skills. In jobs, we often do the same tasks daily. But in business, every day teaches you something new. It’s like learning outside the classroom.

Harshita Arora, from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is a self-taught coder who built the Crypto Price Tracker app when she was just 16. Without any formal college degree in tech or business, she learned coding by herself, mostly through the internet and online forums.

She launched her app in 2018, and within a short time, it reached the Top 10 on the App Store in 11 countries. Later, it was acquired by a U.S.-based company.

Her journey was not easy. She faced criticism, bias (especially being a young girl in tech), and had to handle user feedback, updates, and marketing all while learning on the go. Harshita’s story proves that you don’t need a degree to start, and real learning happens when you take action.

Purpose over paycheck

Many students today want their work to have a purpose not just make money. When you start your own business, you can choose something meaningful. It could be helping people, protecting the environment, or creating something useful for others.

For example, Falguni Nayar the founder of Nykaa, had a long career in the corporate world. At 49, she left her stable job to start something of her own. She wanted to create a platform where Indian women could easily access quality beauty products online something that didn’t exist back then.

She started small, took risks, and built Nykaa with a clear purpose: to empower women through beauty and choice. Today, Nykaa is a leading brand, and Falguni is one of India’s most successful entrepreneurs. Her story shows that it’s never too late to choose purpose over a paycheck and that meaningful ideas can lead to powerful impact

Conclusion:

In today’s world, students are thinking differently about their future. It’s no longer just about getting a secure job it’s about doing something that matters, something that feels right. Entrepreneurship is becoming a popular path because it offers more than money. It offers a chance to follow your interests, solve real problems, and create your own space in the world

Students today are not just choosing careers they’re choosing meaning. They want to build lives around what they care about. Entrepreneurship gives them opportunity. It’s not the easier path, but it’s often the more rewarding one. If you have a passion or a purpose, don’t wait for the “right time.” Start learning, exploring, and taking small steps.
